Scream 3 Review

Scream 3 is directed by Wes Craven and stars Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette.

This is the third movie in the Scream franchise and often is regarded as the worst of the franchise. The reason it feels so disjointed and way too silly at times is due to two reasons.

The first reason is that a new writer replaced original pen Kevin Williamson. Apparently, he was busy with a handful of other projects.

The second reason is that they had to do very quick rewrites just before production began and during shooting due to the tragic Columbine shootings that occurred just before production began. The original script involved Stu, from the first movie, recruiting high school kids into a "Cult of Ghostface" and some aspects of the script were just too similar to the Columbine shootings.

So to avoid controversy they rewrote the entire thing on very short notice. Luckily, it's not all bad.

While the first two films felt like spoofs of earlier movies in series like, Friday the 13th and Halloween, this movie embraces the sequel fatigue of many horror sequels like, Jason X and Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers.

I think this movie plays on that well even though I don't think it was intentional.

While not bad, I would have loved to see the original version of the movie more than this one.

Scream 3 gets a B-.
